"But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will BE LOVERS OF SELF, lovers of money, BOASTFUL, ARROGANT, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, BRUTAL, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, CONCEITED, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; AVOID SUCH MEN AS THESE." - 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Proverbs 16:5 cautions, "Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, he will not go unpunished."
"Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good.He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil. - Psalm 36:1-4
I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, WHO LIKES TO PUT HIMSELF FIRST, does not acknowledge our authority. So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, talking wicked nonsense against us. And not content with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers, and also stops those who want to and puts them out of the church." 3 John 1:1
"But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” - James 4:6 ESV
" But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you.11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” - Luke 14:10-11 ESV
"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples,2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat,3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice.4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[a] and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.5 THEY DO ALL THEIR DEEDS TO BE SEEN BY OTHERS. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long,6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues11 The greatest among you shall be your servant.12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. - Matthew 23:1-6,11-12 ESV
"And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? - Luke 9:23-25 ESV
"The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. - Proverbs 8:13 ESV
" Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.A stone is heavy, and sand is weighty, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?Better is open rebuke than hidden love.Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy. - Proverbs 27:2-6 ESV
"14 And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. - lRevelation 3:14,17-19 ESV
"Scoffer, is the name of the arrogant, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride." - Proverbs 21:24 ESV
Phil. 2:2-4 – “fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let NOTHING be done through SELFISH AMBITION or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
1 Peter 5:2-4 – “Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly,[a] not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away."
Matt. 20: 24’26 – “And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.”
God will judge the shepherds and rescue His sheep;
"The word of the Lord came to me:“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds,
Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves!
Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them.
So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and they became food for all the wild beasts.
My sheep were scattered;they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them.
Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:As I live, declares the Lord God, surely because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:
Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep at their hand and put a stop to their feeding the sheep. No longer shall the shepherds feed themselves.
I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.“For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out.I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God.
I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice.I will rescue my flock; they shall no longer be a prey. - Ezekiel 34:1-11,15-16,22 ESV
